Gnarly Giant Spider Crab
Native to the south eastern waters of Australia, this is one of the biggest Australian crabs.
Although usually solitary creatures, they aggregate in winter, mainly around Port Phillip Bay, gathering in large groups and collectively shedding their shells. It is believed they come together in large number as a form of protection from predators while they are at their most vulnerable - changing shells.
The Giant Spider Crab is a red, orange coral colour but Jess here has drawn the crab is vibrant pinks, purples and yellows, showing all the gnarly, knuckley parts of the crabs.
